Elderberry - Native

 Key Permaculture & Cultivation Details:

  • Site Selection: Thrives in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soils (pH 5.5–6.5). 
  • Maintenance: Low-maintenance, requiring only annual mulching (woodchips/compost) and  pruning of older canes to encourage new, productive growth.
  • Ecological Value: Excellent for erosion control, attracting pollinators, and providing habitat for over 120 bird species.
  • Harvesting: Berries are harvested in mid-to-late summer for syrup, tea, and jelly.
